ABOUT Brett Engle Ph.D., LCSW
Dr. Brett Engle has worked in substance misuse and mental health for over 20 years. He has been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Clinical Supervisor in Florida since 2007. He also obtained his PhD in social welfare from Florida International University (FIU) and became a Motivational Interviewing (MI) Network Trainer that same year. Dr. Engle received a National Institute of Health grant to complete his dissertation on motivational interviewing based language for predicting substance use outcomes of treatment, and he has published over a dozen peer reviewed journal articles as well as book chapters. Dr. Engle was an Associate Professor at the Barry University School of Social Work, where he taught from 2007-2017. He is an Assistant Professor at the FIU Wertheim College of Medicine, where he has taught the evidence-based MI approach to faculty and medical students, since 2009, and is the lead author on an article published in the peer-reviewed MedEdPublish journal.
Since 2014, Dr. Engle has intensively studied and practiced trauma resolution therapies, informed by polyvagal theory and has completed several hundred hours of instruction in Rapid Resolution Therapy.
Dr. Engle provides trauma treatment sessions to Gracious Care Recovery Solutions clients; a key component to the healing necessary to truly break the cycle of addiction. These sessions never involve reliving a traumatic event and every session is designed to have an observable and lasting effect, consistent with the neuroscience of memory reconsolidation.
In his free time, Dr. Engle is a family man and stand-up comedian. His comedy reflects his own challenges and transformation, from growing up with extreme social anxiety to becoming an engaging and entertaining presenter and performer. Dr. Engle has won several competitions and has opened for Jim Jefrries and Christopher Titus.
